  Waterlooplein in Amsterdam

'Not a beautiful square near the Amstel. Known for the flea market.'
This square in the center of Amsterdam is certainly not pretty. The huge building Stopera dominates the square and provides little atmosphere. The only mood maker is the daily flea market.

Our review of Waterlooplein

Little charisma and atmosphere

Square right in the Centre, near the Amstel River. The Waterlooplein is dominated by the building 'de Stopera’. The name is a combination of the words 'City Hall' and 'Opera'. The Stopera is quite large and not very beautiful and this has its influence on the atmosphere in the square. There are still a few older buildings on the square and the Moses & Aaron Church. The Waterlooplein doesn't have much charisma and atmosphere. You miss nothing. However, only the waterlooplein market could still seduce you.

Daily market

These daily (not on Sunday) market is a kind of flea market. Here you will find market stalls with lots of second-hand stuff like clothes, old LP records, books and antiques. But also new stuff, such as locks for the bike. The market gives some happy atmosphere and coziness to the Waterlooplein.
