Our review of Red Light District
Red light district with many canals
The red light district of Amsterdam, also called the Wallen, includes the area around the Oudezijds Voorburgwal, Oudezijds Achterburgwal and the kloveniersburgwal. This is the eastern part of the medieval centre. In this area are many canals, narrow streets and 17th century buildings.
People also live here
The red light district has a double character. There is a lot of window prostitution. . With also sex shops and the possibility to see live sex shows. There is some drug sales on the street. In between, one finds also ordinary shops and pubs. Because ordinary people like you and me, live in this area.
Popular with tourists
The walls are very popular with tourists and the local population. It's never quiet on the street. You can explore the surrounding area, but there are also opportunities for guided tours, which are certainly interesting.
Do not take photos of the ladies
In comparison to the red light districts in other cities, the atmosphere is relatively relaxed. However, keep watch. Make at least no pictures of the ladies behind the windows.
